Art House Box Office: “Queen,” “Easy Money” Launch

There's nothing easy about money.

A decent amount of new indie releases this week, as the art houses try to regain attentionĀ  in between superhero movies. “Farewell My Queen,” the Marie Antoinette, movie led the pack, with “Trishna,” the India set version of Thomas Hardy’s “Tess” was a distant, but solid, second. “Easy Money,” a big hit in Sweden, started small here in two theaters, but did well, , while “The Imposter” got off to a good start in one theater.

The holdovers that have been solid this summer looked good again. The usual suspects: “Moonrise Kingdom,” “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,” “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” and “To Rome With Love.”

Next week, well, run and hide from “The Dark Knight Rises.” The art houses are barely even bothering to counterprogram, with only “The Well-digger’s Daughter” daring to debut.
