‘Kick-Ass’ Goes Universal

Kick-Ass is one film I’ve been looking forward since the day I first heard about it. The problem was that until a couple of days ago it didn’t actually have a distributor outside the United States and Canada
August saw Lionsgate nab the distribution rights for Kick-Ass in North America. But it’s taken three months for a deal to be made for the international rights. But thankfully it’s now happened, with Universal Pictures taking on the property.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kick-Ass is now scheduled to be shown in theaters in the U.K., Germany, Australia, Latin America, Austria, Switzerland, and New Zealand. The release date should match or be very close to that in the States, which is currently planned for April 2010.
For those who haven’t yet heard about Kick-Ass: it’s the story of a teenage comic-book fan who becomes a real-life superhero despite not actually having any super powers or special skills. It’s an action-comedy written, directed, and produced by Matthew Vaughn.
