ZombiU 26 years In The Making

ZombiU is set to be a core game for the Wii U. Unveiled at E3 2012 it’s one of the few games on the Wii U that has so far really grabbed people’s attentions. Perhaps because it successfully uses the tablet controller.

As discovered by GamesRadar, ZombiU has actually been 26 years in the making. Not literally, but purely chronologically. This is due to a game having been released in 1986 called Zombi, Ubisoft’s first published title. And it’s clearly connected to the new game in more than just name.

This means it beats Duke Nukem for being the game in development for the longest time. Kinda. Comparing ZombiU to Duke Nukem Forever is, of course, like comparing apples and oranges. Duke Nukem Forever was actually worked on for over 10 years but held up by constant delays and reworking. ZombiU is old IP being revisited.

But that’s missing the point. It’s still interesting to hear that ZombiU is a remake of a game from 26 years ago, created for a whole new audience. It also demonstrates how zombies have been popular for decades and continue to be so.
