Max Payne 3 was a long time coming. Originally slated for release in 2009 it finally showed up last month. Thankfully the extended development appears to have resulted in a classy game revered by critics. Hell, even Ben ‘Yahtzee’ Croshaw seems impressed.
Max Payne 3 gained a lot of love from the gaming press, all of which helped it sell 3 million copies in the first week. Most reviewers have scored it in the 80-90/100 range.
In this Zero Punctuation review Yahtzee praises the action, especially the showing-how-it’s-done bullet-time, slow-motion malarkey. Unfortunately the storyline and characterization left him cold. But then Yahtzee calling out Payne for being negative is rather hypocritical.
Max Payne 3 is out now on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. It’s for fans of the previous games in the series or people who just can’t get enough of the bullet-time effect. And that don’t really care about plotholes.
