Ben ‘Yahtzee’ Croshaw is back with another review for Zero Punctuation. This time out he casts a (very) critical eye over Mass Effect 3, a game which, it’s fair to say, has generated a lot of debate and even some outright hate.
You may have heard about the backlash over the ending of Mass Effect 3, which also acts as the ending to the trilogy. You may even have been one of those complaining about the ending, although I doubt you went so far as to threaten to sue, as some have.
Unsurprisingly it’s the ending that forms the basis for Croshaw’s misgivings about Mass Effect 3. he didn’t love it but then he didn’t hate it either. not that I’m sure he is actually capable of expressing such extremes of emotion.
My personal feeling on the subject is that it’s not for us fans to decide how a game should end. Just like movies and books, games are works of art and how they turn out is entirely the decision of the creators.
