Xbox 720 Delayed Until 2014?

It’s been clear for some time now that Microsoft and Sony are both working on new home consoles to replace the Xbox 360 and PS3 respectively, but as of yet no further details have been revealed to the public.

If the numerous chatter of a release for both in 2013 is to be believed then developers will be in the know and already working on games for the launch of the systems, and other sources have quietly teased releases late in 2013.

However, there have been rumors over the last few days that Microsoft may have to delay the release of the Xbox 720 (or Xbox 8 as I suspect it will be named) to early in 2014. SemiAccurate suggests as much, and industry analyst Michael Pachter agrees that it’s at least a possibility.

Obviously it couldn’t be labeled a delay at this point as no release date has been announced, but for those in the know it would count as such. The question is what the ramifications will be were Sony to get their new console out in time for the 2013 holiday season months ahead of Microsoft?
