Soul Calibur V is almost ready for release, and it’s looking like it could be the best installment of the long-running series to date.
The Soul series started with Soul Edge/Soul Blade on the arcade and on Playstation in 1996. There have been five sequels since as well as a couple of spin-offs. All of which have pleased someone, somewhere. However, it’s looking likely Soul Calibur V will be able to please everyone, everywhere.
The previews have started coming in for Soul Calibur V, with various sites having played a near-final copy of the game. All have been impressed. What is good about the previous games – fluid gameplay, fantastic visuals, huge weapons – has been retained, but new features – special moves, combo attacks, and better guarding – have also been added. This is in addition to the usual set of new characters and new levels of customization.
Everything points to Soul Calibur V being the best in the series, but we won’t know for sure until the reviews start flooding in at the end of this month. Soul Calibur V is released in the U.S. on Jan. 31, in Japan on Feb 2, and in Europe on Feb. 3.
