Sony Unveils New PlayStation Store

The current PlayStation Store isn’t all that impressive, with slow-loading times, blocky and uninspired aesthetics, and a distinct lack of features compared to the Xbox Live Marketplace. What it needs is a hefty overhaul…

… and that’s exactly what it’s about to get. Sony pulled back the curtains on the new PlayStation Store design at a special press event in London yesterday (Oct. 11), and it certainly looks like being an improvement.

The visuals have been given a makeover, with the boring blue replaced by a vibrant background built around the concept of heroes. Beloved PlayStation characters will be placed front and center to draw the eye in.

According to VG24/7, other improvements include a carousel design for scrolling through content, a smart search engine which can detect abbreviations and typos, and sensible PS Vita and PSP integration.

The new PlayStation Store will roll out in Europe on Oct. 17 and in North America on Oct. 23.
