Those of us, and I include myself in this set of people, who love Shenmue REALLY love Shenmue. Some people may have played the game and wondered what all the fuss was about, while those who got it fell in love with it and keep going back to it regularly.
The thing is it was far from perfect, but it was a game ahead of its time and with gameplay elements that, though they have since become standard, were fresh and innovative upon its original Dreamcast release.
There may be an HD remake on the way, and fans are still lobbying Sega for a Shenmue 3 which either continues or closes the epic story started in the first two installments. Until then, we may have to make do with Sleeping Dogs.
That video (via DSOGaming) is, believe it or not, made entirely using footage from Sleeping Dogs. The audio is from Shenmue, and the QTE hints are added extras, but the actual gameplay is from Sleeping Dogs. I’ll be buying this game… if for no other reason than it was clearly inspired by Shenmue.
