As you may have already heard, Sony is getting a new boss, with Playstation head Kaz Hirai taking over as President and CEO of the whole company. Hirai has led Sony’s foray in the games hardware market, but can he lead the company proper?
Hirai has already spelled out his vision, albeit in brief, of how the company recovers from the lull it finds itself in at the present time, saying:
“The path we must take is clear: to drive the growth of our core electronics businesses – primarily digital imaging, smart mobile and games; to turn around the television business; and to accelerate the innovation that enables us to create new business domains.”
Here at Gaming World we’re obviously only interested in the gaming side of things. And Digitally Downloaded recently argued that Sony could help itself by dropping the Playstation brand in the near future. And it’s a compelling piece.
It’s strange but when you examine the name it’s really quite lame. ‘Playstation’ sounds childish and worthless, and yet that’s not what we associate with the brand when we think of products. Either way it won’t happen quite yet, so we should still see a Playstation 4 arrive shortly…
