There’s no need to panic, the crisis has been averted, The Last Guardian is still in development and on its way to a Sony console near you soon. However, the long-awaited game could be getting a name change and may even be switched from the PS3 to the PS4.
Yesterday Playstation Lifestyle discovered that Sony had lost the trademark to The Last Guardian, which was now listed as “abandoned.” Seeing as this has long been the name of the next title from Team Ico, this was considered a possible calamity.
However, Sony has since issued a statement insisting, “The project is still in development. Nothing new to report at this time.” So it looks as though this was simply a case of letting an old name slip as a new one is being planned. Some are speculating this is because of its similarity to The Last Of Us, the forthcoming game from Naughty Dog.
The Last Guardian has been in development for four years and yet still isn’t ready for release. With the next-gen Playstation due out in the next 18 months this may be the time to switch it to the new console.
