A little over a month ago, a new campaign was launched on crowd-funding site Kickstarter to raise money to launch Ouya. Ouya is an Android-powered home games console that will be packed full of downloadable indie games.
The idea behind Ouya was to disrupt the games industry, trying to get a foothold in the marketplace currently dominated by tech giants. Those funding the Kickstarter campaign would get an Ouya console for just $99 as their reward.
The Kickstarter campaign has now ended, with more than 63,000 people pledging money to the cause. In all, over $8.5 million was raised. The plan now is to send developer units out before the end of the year, with consumer units following in March 2013.
People who missed out on the Kickstarter campaign, or who have opted to wait until after it ended, can now pre-order Ouya from the official website for $109 within the U.S., $119 elsewhere. Which is something of a bargain if you believe the hype.
