While gamers everywhere are gearing up for the next-generation consoles to be announced (with the Wii U already on its way Sony and Microsoft surely won’t be far behind) it looks as though the existing hardware will be getting an update first.
According to an FCC filing first reported on by NeoGAF, a new version of the PS3 looks set to be unveiled. This would be a slimmer PS3 than the PS3 Slim, with the design given a face-lift in addition to the the decrease in size.
This would, at least on first sight, appear to be a strange decision from Sony. With the PS4 so close why bother with a rehashed PS3? But there are plenty of people who don’t keep up with the latest hardware and who will happily buy a PS3 at this stage in time. Assuming the new slimmer PS3 Slim was also given a price cut then it will sell long after many of us have moved on.
there is speculation this new hardware iteration will be unveiled at Gamescom in August.
