Microsoft Unveils ‘MyAchievements’ On Xbox Live Rewards

Microsoft has rolled out a new initiative as part of its Xbox Live Rewards program. It rewards Xbox Live Gold members for their Gamerscores, built up by getting achievements in Xbox 360 games.

Those with Gamerscores between 3,000 and 9,999 will be classified as a Contender and earn a “special gift” (worth $0.25!) on their birthday month. Those with Gamerscores between 10,000 and 24,999 will be classified as a Champion and earn a 1 percent discount on all Xbox Live Marketplace purchases. Those with Gamerscores over 25,000 will be classified as a Legend and earn a 2 percent discount on all Xbox Live Marketplace purchases.

There has been considerable reaction across the InterWebs to MyAchievements. Most people love the idea behind it – to reward the most dedicated gamers with real-world benefits – but feel that the benefits being offered are so bad as to be useless.

In other words, Microsoft, nice try, but you’ll need to be a little more generous to turn this into anything other than a waste of time and energy for all concerned.
