Journey has been a hit. A big hit. Such a big hit, in fact, that it has broken records.
According to the Official Playstation Blog, Journey has become the fastest-selling game ever released on the Playstation Store in both North America and Europe. It obviously helps that the title is only available through the Playstation Store, but still.
For those not aware of the game, Journey is an indie title Thatgamescompany, who previously brought Flow and Flower to the PS3. Journey is their latest and no doubt greatest creation.
It’s a deceptively simple game that doesn’t last very long. But that doesn’t matter, because it’s an experience that will stay with you long after you have put the controller down. And it has been universally lauded by critics.
Hopefully this will encourage other indie games developers to focus on innovation and gameplay over anything else. Visuals are nice but they’re certainly not the be-all-and-end-all.
