How Long Is Dishonored? And Does It Matter?

Dishonored is one of the biggest games due out before the end of 2012, and it’s due to be released on Tuesday (Oct. 9). But while it’s expected to be one of the best games of this generation, and a possible contender for game of the year, a question mark remains over how long it is.

There are various thread on the Bethesda forums about this topic. Level designer Dan Todd states that it took him around 22 hours, and that didn’t include “exploring every nook and cranny.” But others have stated that they have beaten the game in four to six hours.

Those claiming the four to six hours playthroughs are thought to have been going for speed over all else, but the result still suggests Dishonored can be beaten in a very short space of time. But does it actually matter?

Some of my favorite gaming experiences – ones that have stayed with me for years afterwards – have been with games considered short. I’d rather play something brilliant for 10 hours than something dismal for 100 hours. But perhaps that’s just me.

Now that the reviews are out I’m even more excited for this game. One of the reviewers said beating it in four hours is laughable. Took him 15-18 and he said he felt rushed to complete it. Can’t wait for tomorrow.
