At this stage it’s impossible to tell whether the Wii U is going to be a huge success (just like its predecessor) or an abject failure (just like the GameCube).
However, with the Wii U only weeks away from launch, the time for speculation about its ultimate fate is drawing to a close. Instead it’s time to get on with it, starting with the first television ad which aired in the U.K. during an episode of Homeland.
It says a lot that the most memorable part of that video is when Brad Pitt makes a strange noise at the beginning. And that was part of the ad that aired before the one for the Wii U.
There is so much wrong with that commercial it’s hard to know where to begin. The Adam Buxton voiceover is excessively cheesy, while the bullet points laid out as to why you’d want to buy a Wii U are pretty lame.
Nintendo faces a tough ask repeating the success of the original Wii, and this is a bad start in its effort to make that happen.
