It may only be five words but when EA Labels boss Frank Gibeau (pictured above) uttered, “I’ve seen both of them” when referring to the next-gen consoles from Sony and Microsoft, he confirmed their existence. Which to now has only been subject to speculation.
We’ve assumed Sony and Microsoft are preparing for the next-generation for some time now, but it’s never actually been confirmed by either company. Thankfully Gibeau broke the silence at Gamescom on Thursday (Aug. 16).
This may seem like non-news to some, but it’s actually pretty massive. Because this is the first time someone from within the games industry has admitted to having seen the next-gen consoles.
Both the PS4 and Xbox 720 (or whatever they end up being called) are clearly real and out there in the hands of the big-name developers. Which strongly suggests 2013 launches for both the Sony and Microsoft machines.
