Cliff Bleszinski (AKA CliffyB) has announced he is leaving Epic Games. CliffyB is one of those game designers with a certain notoriety, and he experienced considerable fame thanks to his reputation.
Bleszinski’s reason for departing the company responsible for the Unreal and Gears Of War series is just that he needs a break after working non-stop for too many years. In a personal note to colleagues he said:
“I’ve been doing this since I was a teenager, and outside of my sabbatical last year, I have been going non-stop. I literally grew up in this business, as Mike likes to say. And now that I’m grown up, it’s time for a much needed break.”
CliffyB has been involved in creating some of the biggest games of all time, most notably the Unreal games and Gears Of War games, plus the likes of Bulletstorm and Shadow Complex. His influence at Epic will surely be missed, but I suspect he’ll pop up elsewhere before very long.
