PSM magazine is teasing an announcement in next month’s magazine of “a mystery shooter sequel” that will be “one of 2012′s hottest shooters.” With Call of Duty and Battlefield sequels guaranteed and hardly counting as mysteries, speculation as to what game we’re looking at is rife on the Web.
The majority of people believe this is Black 2, a sequel to a PS2 game simply titled Black. Developed by Criterion Games and published by EA, it was ahead of its time, with stunning visuals and real-world physics that hadn’t previously been seen at that point.
All the signs point to this “mystery shooter sequel” indeed being Black 2. With the bullets implying as much. But it’s a strange choice to make releasing a sequel to a game few people will even remember at this stage. And one that even fewer will care about seeing a sequel to.
Black‘s raison d’etre was the innovative effects. All of which are now pretty much standard on the shooters we all know, love, and play in our millions each year. So unless a new innovation has been established for this sequel I doubt this will live up to the hype that is clearly already being built.
