‘Assassin’s Creed’ Movie, Starring Fassbender

Movies based on video games are notoriously poor. Even the better ones aren’t exactly great. Perhaps the two genres just don’t mix, or perhaps it’s because crappy directors try to put their own stamp on it rather than sticking to what the fans of the games know and love.

Hopefully Michael Fassbender is the man to bring a touch of class to the genre as, according to Variety, he has signed up to star in and co-produce a movie based on the Assassin’s Creed series.

Ubisoft Motion Pictures CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet stated, “Michael Fassbender was our first choice. Michael is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor.” That he may be, and he has proven so over the past few years. But none of those qualities guarantees Assassin’s Creed will turn out to be a satisfying film.

I’ve always felt the Assassin’s Creed series would make for a better TV series than a movie, but Ubisoft is clearly looking for the big bucks. I suspect they’ll do the same with this as they did with Prince Of Persia – make one film that can either stand alone or spawn sequels, depending on how well it’s received.
