A History Of Video Games In Under 3 Minutes

Video gaming is as much a part of the media landscape as movies, television, and music these days, despite its relative young age. The games we play have evolved over the past decades, as this video, titled ‘A Brief History of Video Games’, demonstrates.

The video was put together by Reverse Enginears, a company that specializes in re-sequencing and remixing existing audio. It was made in order to start promoting a new gaming news site called Polygon which is set to launch later this year.

There has been some criticism of the distinct lack of PC games featured, and the Dreamcast, possibly my favorite console of all time, is also absent. But that shouldn’t take away from this gem of a video.

Not only is it a slice of genius using the sounds from various games to create a song, the whole thing acts like a nostalgia-inducing trip back through the ages. From Pong to Sonic, from Crash Bandicoot to Mass Effect.
