Will Smith’s son Jaden to star in the remake of The Karate Kid

Jaden Smith

Variety has confirmed that Will Smith’s son Jaden is set to star in the remake of 80′s film, The Karate Kid. It kills me that Hollywood has really run out of ideas and are borrowing from 80′s movies like this. While I’m sure that Jaden will do a great job as the main character as he’s already taking martial arts classes, but movies like this were good in that era.

I’m curious to see how the movie will turn out. Jaden is much younger than Ralph Macchio when he played the role of Daniel LaRusso. Daniel’s character was a high school student who was bullied and learns karate so that he doesn’t have to fight.

Will Smith is producing, along with James Lassiter, Ken Stovitz and Jerry Weintraub. Jerry originally produced the Karate Kid franchise. Jaden made his acting debut alongside his father in the movie, The Pursuit of Happyness.

Shooting for the movie begins next year in Beijing. What do you think of the casting decision? Think they should’ve gotten someone a little older? Or, do you think they’ve found a good match for the role of Daniel? And will Ralph make a cameo? Did Jaden get the role just because his dad is producing?
