Katie Holmes got exactly what she wanted in her divorce from Tom Cruise. You know things are really bad when someone doesn’t want to fleece the other, more richer party and they just want out. Katie got out of her marriage in the most spectacular way possible, but she’s definitely not getting rich from it.
Tom is said to be worth a cool $250 million, but according to their prenuptial agreement, she didn’t get any spousal support — not that she wanted any. She also didn’t receive any kind of lump sum payout from the actor, either. In fact, the only thing that was awarded in their divorce was child support for their daughter Suri.
As it turns out, Tom will have to pay Katie $400,000 per year in child support until Suri reaches the age of 18. He will have to shell out $33,333.33 per month, which will be paid via electronic funds transfer. That’s also a plus for Katie, because she won’t have to see Tom at all.
Still, how many people do you know that would be able to pay that kind of money for a young kid? Some folks don’t make that in a year’s time. It’s hard to think that Suri would need that kind of money for anything — even all of the designer purses and shoes that she’s become accustomed to.
In addition, Tom will have to pay for Suri’s medical, dental, insurance, education, college and any extracurricular costs. Here’s a nifty little tidbit, Katie also had a clause put in the agreement that states that Tom can’t enroll Suri in any type of “residential school”. He can’t send her to Scientology school! Katie is smart. Kudos to her.
