Mariah Carey said yes to becoming a judge on American Idol even though her husband Nick Cannon said that she would only do it for $100 million. She might be lining her pockets with some serious cash, but apparently the decision to judge the show might actually be hurting her marriage.
According to the latest gossip, in signing on to do Idol, Mariah ignored Nick’s wishes and he is furious at her. Of course that would be because he hosts America’s Got Talent and they are in competition — so that makes sense.
He has publicly said that she is going to be “amazing” on the show, an insider said that “privately, Nick’s gritting his teeth and dead-set against her taking the job.”
The source goes on to say that while she was in negotiations, Nick tried to “throw water on the negotiations” by telling a reporter, “I don’t know if they can afford Mariah Carey…If they gave J-Lo $20 million, they might have to double that!”
The insider went on to say, “Nick was tossing around outrageous salary figures in hopes of pricing Mariah out of the market. Right until the eleventh hour, he was begging her to pass on the offer. He was dangling incentives – diamond jewelry, a luxurious spa vacation, even promising to pay her a one-time ‘gift’ of $15 million for saying no. Nick wants her to be a stay-at-home mom to their twins, at least until they turn five. He was even hoping to have another baby, but Mariah has effectively scorched that dream.”
