Now that all of the dust from Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ divorce is settling, we are kind of curious if the Church of Scientology is making it a point to bend the rules for their most famous member?
Most Scientologists have to shun or “disconnect” from those who fly the coop AKA the Church. When someone “blows” the Church, they are declared a “Suppressive Person” or an “SP”. Being declared an “SP” means that everyone you know within the Church has to disconnect their lives from yours in every possible way.
If you are an “SP”, they route any attempted contact with members of the Church to their Office Of Special Affairs. The Church is completely serious about excommunicating people from its ranks. People have been cut off from families, parents, children and everything.
If Tom were actually playing by the rules of Scientology, he would have to disconnect completely from Katie, as well as Suri. Former church spokesman Mike Rinder said, “This is the double standard that gets applied. The church always says it’s simply applying policy, but it’s all total crap. The church does what is convenient and expedient. It’s never what’s right or what ought to be.”
