Heath Ledger never saw the finished version of The Dark Knight

Heath Ledger

Heath Ledger had already moved on to doing The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus while The Dark Knight’s director Chris Nolan was editing the new Batman movie.

Unfortunately for Heath, he never got to see the finished product. Nolan screened the first trailer for Heath, but he was still in the middle of editing when Heath passed away.

Nolan says, “He was already on another film. It was months and months since we’d wrapped. We had really cut a lot of the film together and watched the film a couple of times and were about halfway through the edit process. Unfortunately he’d only seen the prologue, the introduction to his character shot with these IMAX cameras and put out as a short film in IMAX for Christmas. We screened it for him and he enjoyed it very much. It gave him a taste of how it was going to come across but I was never able to show him his finished performance and that’s very sad.”

It is very sad, indeed. And Michelle Williams has said that she won’t be attending the premiere of the movie, because there’s no reason for her to be there.

Rumor has it that Heath might win a post-humous Oscar for his role as the Joker. What a way to die in the pinnacle of your career. Such a tragedy.
