Goldie Hawn calls young celebrities ‘media prisoners’

Goldie Hawn

Goldie Hawn is hitting out the insatiable paparazzi that swarms young stars like Britney Spears, Amy Winehouse, and Lindsay Lohan. She says they are to blame for the problems that affect some of the world’s most famous women.

In an interview to be broadcast tonight with Jonathan Ross, Goldie says that the media is making young stars “prisoners”.

She cites the fact that celebrities such as Winehouse, Spears, and Lohan have all admitted themselves into rehab during the past year, when paparazzi attention was at its highest.

Goldie didn’t have to name drop for us to know who she’s talking about.

Hawn told Jonathan Ross:

“These young girls in the media now, they’re hounded, hunted, they’re prisoners and they’re frightened. This world is all tabloid.”

The 62-year-old actress claimed the entertainment industry’s obsession with looks was “scary [and] awful”.

“Vanity is a big problem,” she continued. “It’s a pressure that children have. A healthy amount of vanity is good, but this sense of wanting more than you have is bad.”
