Delta Burke speaks out about depression

Designing Women actress Delta Burke’s spell in the hospital is the result of a lifetime battle with anxiety and depression. She checked herself into a clinic earlier this month to battle OCD and “hoarding”.

Speaking for the first time since being in the hospital, she reveals that she has suffered anxiety attacks since she was in kindergarten and has been depressed since she was 13.

Burke tells Entertainment Tonight, “I was on five different kinds of medication. After a couple of years the meds stopped working. I needed an adjustment under a physician’s care. I was being proactive. Now I’m on two medications.”

She said that contemplated suicide during her darkest time, on the set of Designing Women. She said that she was parked in the car in the Hills with a gun and a bottle of Xanax beside her, trying to recover from harsh words in the tabloids.

She goes on to say that she wants to be the face of depression. I think it’s a rare occurrence when a celebrity checks in to a hospital to get things done for themselves, as opposed to waiting until they can’t control it anymore and going crazy.
