He kept the details of his affair with his housekeeper away from his wife Maria Shriver. It was only after it was revealed that he had a kid with the housekeeper did he come clean. So it’s sufficient to say that he’s shiesty with the details about his dealings.
When speaking about the affair, he commented that he had become an “expert at living in denial”. Apparently the affair wasn’t the only thing that he had kept hidden from his family. He kept his plans to run for Governor of California under wraps until the very last minute, in addition to his planned heart surgery.
He said, “That’s the way I handle things. And it always has worked. But, I mean it does not – it’s not the best thing for people around me because I sometimes – some information I just keep to myself. I became an expert at living in denial.”
He said that his plans for the Governorship were kept quiet because he “didn’t want endless conversation about it at home.”
He added that he does regret the damage that his affair has caused his family. He said, “That is something that I will always look back and say, ‘How could you have done that?’”
